If you’ve ever posted a review on Yelp, do you know that your review might be hidden or filtered from the public view?
Yes! It’s true! All that trouble to write a review and your 2 cents might not even count!! Yelp (and a few other online city guides or directories) use highly technical screening processes before permanently posting their reviews to the public. When it comes to Yelp, if you are a new user on their site, meaning you have only written one or two reviews, they don’t really consider you “credit-worthy enough”. Well, what it actually is, is that this filter is put in place to restrict local business owners from creating multiple “fake” accounts to accredit their business with 5-star rave reviews. Believe it or not, this practice is fairly common and should be reprimanded, but oftentimes there aren’t real ways to distinguish the real customers from the fake ones, hence these filters.
But you just left a review, so where did it go? If you go to a business’ Yelp page, like our Daniel Cordova Plumbing, Drain & Sewer page, and scroll down to the bottom. On the left-hand side, you will see in small gray text something that says… “read # filtered reviews”. This is actually a link, and if you click on the link, you will see all of that company’s filtered reviews.
How do you get your review out of this filter though? It’s actually pretty easy…start using Yelp more!! Leave reviews for other local businesses and connect with your friends on Yelp. The more you Yelp, the more it will help build your creditworthiness with Yelp, and just-like-that, your reviews will pop out of those crazy filters!
So don’t let your 2 cents go to waste; Help support local businesses and help other customers by leaving more reviews! Thanks for reading, and if you haven’t already, check out our Yelp page and leave a review!
